Element: Prepare to polish concrete floors
Interpret concrete polishing requirements from job instructions
Identify hazards and check risk treatments are in place and operating
Select and check concrete grinding, polishing and other required equipment and tools are ready to use, and organise to fix any deficiencies according to workplace procedures
Gather cleaning chemicals, preparation and finishing products and other materials required by job instructions, and check they meet quality requirements and are ready to use according to the manufacturer instructions, product labels, safety data sheets and workplace procedures
Element: Receive flooring materials
Remove fittings, fixtures, loose debris, dirt, adhesives, paint and other items and contaminants from the floor using appropriate methods and products
Measure and mix cleaning chemicals, if required, in the correct ratios according to the manufacturer instructions, product labels and safety data sheets
Set up the polishing machine with the machine rotation speed, direction and diamond tools appropriate for removing contaminants
Operate the polishing machine to capture and remove contaminants according to job instructions
Element: Operate polishing machinery to polish the floor
Operate the polishing machine to establish a passing pattern, and polish the concrete floor according to workplace procedures and job instructions
Overlap outer zones and stagger passes to achieve the desired finish
Continually monitor the machine to ensure its motors are running within the manufacturer safe operating limits and there are no apparent electrical faults
Polish the floor’s perimeter using edge and corner polishing equipment and appropriate attachments
Identify excessive wear on the polishing machine and accessories during the polishing process and change the tools or fix any deficiencies according to workplace procedures
Buff the floor using buffing pads
Check the floor is polished correctly according to job instructions and quality requirements, and fix any deficiencies
Element: Complete the task according to workplace procedures
Clean up the work area, identify items for recycling and dispose of waste
Identify, tag and report any damage to equipment and tools
Check, clean and do routine maintenance on equipment and tools and store them and unused materials
